In Da Studio

Us With Our Producer Scott

Updating my blog via the recording studio “Dragonfly East” where we’re recording the Orange Line tunes with Scott Spelbring (Welbilt, Cinder Road, Jason Mraz). Can’t wait to release these songs… and then the corresponding video(s).

I’m thinking we’ll do a real shoot for one of our songs, then release another video comprised of studio and live footage. The more videos we have, the better. I’m very confident that more people causally surf for music on YouTube now than on Myspace.

Anyway, click here for more photos.

Video Prep - Opteka Lens Kit Test

by Ben Posted in Original Video

So, in an effort to get more flexibility while shooting indoors, I ordered some lenses that attach to the front of my SR11. The kit was only $30 from Amazon, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. As you can see from the video, it’s not too shabby.

There’s a bit of image distortion on the Wide-Angle lens, but I suspect it’s so little that people wouldn’t really notice.

If you scrub through the Youtube video, you can see that basically the wide angle lens cuts the zoom in 1/2, while the zoom lens doubles it. I’ll have to see if it gives me any flexibility with DoF, but I doubt it. All in all, probably worth the 30 bones. It also came with a lens cleaning kit, which is useful for sure.

Video Prep - Motion Strobe Test 2

by Ben Posted in Original Video

Looks pretty good with the drumming. I wish I had my light kit there so I could have lit it better, there was only one flourecent light on, plus some christmas lights strewn about the room. That combined with the high shutter speed made it real dark. So… I think we know my next test!
