Welp, I uploaded this blog on June 15th… see the post below. Time to start actually using it.
A couple of weeks ago, Jabarie, Rob, and I decided at the VERY last minute to enter the Evil League of Evil video contest. For background, you will probably want to first go here: www.drhorrible.com and then go here: www.evilleagueofevil.com.
So, needless to say, the contest deadline was Saturday, October 11th, and we of course only got to work on it at 8:00 PM the night before. Ordinarily that wouldn’t have been TOO much of an issue, but Rob and I had a Judo Chop gig the following day at 4:00 PM, so we really had to get it done that night.
Here’s a rough timeline of our activities:
8:00 PM - Convene for Pizza & Initial Discussion
9:00 PM - Rush out to pick up “costumes”
9:45 PM - Start on Music
10:30 PM - Start Recording (Drums, Piano)
12:30 AM - Recording Guitars, Strings
1:30 AM - Record Vocals
2:30 AM - Record Green Screen
3:30 AM - Living Room Shoot
6:30 AM - Begin Editing
9:45 AM - Last Minute Overdubs / Audio Syncing
11:00 AM - Final Encoding of the Video
That’s right folks… we worked 14 hours non-stop getting this thing done before deadline. Wrote the concept, wrote the song, recorded the song, shot the video, edited the video, and uploaded it! Frankly, I’m pretty pleased with the outcome with the exception of the video quality. I definitely learned the importance of planning out shots ahead of time (storyboarding anyone?). But heck, when you’re filming at 3:30 AM, you sometimes rush things…
Anywho, we’ve been getting quite positive feedback on it, so if you haven’t seen it yet, here it is! Time to figure out what my next video project is going to be…
